After breakfast, Ms. Avalos went over the homework with the class. Then she did Number Talks with the class. Finally, she did the daily number review before moving into the last section of GoMath 12.9.
After watching the On Demand math lesson, and working through the Unlocking the Problems with the interactive lesson on the smartboard, Ms. Avalos and the class did the lesson 12.9. She gave them time to work on their own and then went over the questions.
While Ms. Avalos was teaching math, I was in the back finishing checklists and putting ELA and Math Portfolios together. We have to show them to Mr. Fernandez at the end of the week for promotion criteria for students.

We started by collecting homework and their ReadyGen Materials. We collected the SLEUTH text and the Text Collection. We also made sure we had all other books collected for Ms. Mendoza to collect tomorrow. She doesn't know it yet, but I am holding onto our Natural Disaster class text until we finish. We are on ReadyGen Lesson 3B.11 and we have a total of 18 lessons, so she can have them when we are done!
Next we had our spelling pre-test. The words this week either end in -ed or -ing. They also all have double consonants before the prefix is added. If the students all score a passing mark on the test, this will be our last spelling list and last spelling homework week of the year. If not, we will have ONE MORE.
Finally, we read the next chapter in our class novel "The BFG. This chapter was called Journey to Dream Country. It took a little longer to read because I let the students read it aloud to get practice with fluency. I can tell who has been reading and who hasn't. The only way to improve in reading is to read. Please make sure that your child is reading on a daily basis. Have them read to you. Have them read to a younger sibling. Reading is the key to success in school.
