CookShop Wednesday

We started the class collecting permission slips, homework, and finishing our third text in our test prep unit.

We had our 20 minutes of quiet reading and then moved into our literacy block.  In literacy we read chapter 4 of our text "Escape to Freedom" and our focus was on figurative language and using the text for answering questions.

Sadly, today was our last cookshop lesson.....

We had shortened classes so that we could fit in our hour cookshop.  Today our lesson was on protein!  We talked about healthy proteins from both animal and plant sources.  Our final cook session involved making a pretty yummy black bean salsa spread, putting it in whole wheat tortillas, and then rolling it burrito style and adding a dollop of yogurt on top before eating.  The kids had  blast and now have some exposure to healthy eating options and how they can taste good and be good for you.  If you have more questions, check out MyPlate.Gov.
