Friday

  • 1st - Science with Ms. Galan
  • 2nd/3rd - Math Block
    • We started class by doing Number Talks with a focus on subtracting 2 digit numbers by almost friendly 2 digit numbers.   Kids discussed various methods from counting up, to thinking about 10's.  Then we did the Daily Number Review.  The last of the whole group activity was looking at the Interactive Lesson that unlocks the two problems of the day.   The problems in section 4.10 of GoMath today focused on using charts to figure out multi-step problems.
    • After the lesson, we broke into small groups.  We had one group working with Mr. Johnny, one group with Mrs. Avalos, and one group with myself.  I had to explain to them that the groups were based on the STAR Math test.  If they wanted to move to a different group, the way to do it is to study, practice, and do your best.  We worked our way through lesson 4.10 and the students are SLOWLY starting to learn some multiplication facts.  PARENTS- GET SOME FLASH CARDS!  PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!
  • 4th - Literacy
    • We started with our spelling test.  Today's words were using ee and ea as the long e.  After spelling we discussed that since next week was a short week, we would have a review week.  I am going to pick 10 words that were most often missed from the past 8 lists and that will be that!  After that we broke into Independent Reading and student read books on their own level.
  • 5th - Lunch/ Recess
  • 6th/7th - Writing
    • We stayed out for 15 extra minutes of recess to celebrate FUN FRIDAY!  But when we got back to the room we had from 1 until 2:15 to work on our living thing PBA Writing Project.  Monday we are passing out News Article Templates and students are writing them (or finish typing them) and that will be the end of it.  We have given them more than a week and some have taken advantage and have really good articles, and others have not and will just have to miss recess until their project is complete.  I tell them all the time to make good decisions or they have consequences.
    • We wrapped up the day, passed out notes about school being closed next Thursday and Friday, and then wrote down homework and packed up.
    • We really have to work on transition at the end of the day.  We stop them at 2:15 and have them write homework down and pack up before they call us at 2:25.  We are still late because they talk and waste time. NO BUENO!

Homework:

  • Math:  End of Chapter pp 253-258
  • Writing:  Finish News Article
    • (Think of pictures you might need!)
