Testing Thursday

  • 1st/2nd - Literacy Block
    • We started the day with our 20 minutes of D.E.A.R time.  Students read their IR books, took AR tests, and worked with their reading buddies for support.  We have so many stars popping up on our passed AR Tests.  I am so proud of their hard work.  Even little readers who are not passing are getting more questions right so ALMOST there!
    • After we finished our AR test, the students had an ENTIRE hour to read one two page passage and answer 5 comprehension questions and 6 vocabulary questions to check their understanding.  This assessment is very important because it allows us to see if they are improving from the beginning of the year.  Tomorrow we will be doing the WRITTEN portion of the assessment and I am SO sure that they will show improvement because we have been practicing a lot!
  • 3rd/4th - Math Block
    • First thing we did was go over the homework "Show What You Know" for Chapter 6.  We went problem by problem and used some "literacy" skills to see how they should be attacking these problems.  It was our introduction to Division.  It was important that the students understood that multiplication is putting numbers in group to ADD them... division is taking a whole group of numbers and subtracting them into group to find out how many groups, or how many in each group.   Multiplication is a fast way to add groups, Division is a fast way to subtract groups.
    • After finishing the Show What You Know, we did Chapter 6.1 of GoMath!  It was all about looking at a total number of objects and deciding how many were in a certain number of groups, or how many groups of a certain object and recognizing that these were related numbers.  We did the On the Spot video as a warm up, and then worked through the Interactive Mini-Lesson online before students went to work on the independent practice.
  • 5th - Lunch
  • 6th - Gym (Mr. Hoffman is absent, Inside Gym)
  • 7th - Social Studies
    • Finish lesson 2.2 and start lesson 2.3 on Nigeria.
