What a Nice Day!

Ok, so to be honest, they didn't have a great report from science when I picked them up.  I guess they were really not listening and Ms. Galan had a hard time teaching, but the rest of the day...  It was good!

  • 1st - Science
  • 2nd/Part of 3rd - Harlem Masters Anti-Bully Pep Rally (pictures to come!)
    • We were treated to the Harlem Masters Basketball players coming to talk about Anti-Bullying in schools.  They had a DJ who played great music, they performed basketball tricks, gave motivational messages, heck, even got the teachers on stage to dance.  I hope we don't have that on video!
    • When we returned to the room, we had 15-20 minutes of quiet reading time to get them back in the mood for learning.  They read quietly, took AR tests, and met with adults to check their reading progress.
  • Part of 3rd/4th- Math Block
    • We did lesson 6.6 today in GoMath!  The focus today was using arrays to solve division problems.  We did our Number Talk first.  Then we watched Professor Burger demo what they would be doing today.  Finally, we watched the interactive mini-lesson to unlock the problem with our new mascot - Rebekah Rabbit!
    • After the lessons, the students worked in big cooperative groups to do the problems using math connecting cubes to model making arrays.  Each person in the group got a chance to make the dividend (total number to be divided), to figure out what the divisor was (what it is being divided by) and then figure out the quotient (the answer) by using the connecting cubes.
  • 5th - Lunch / Recess
  • 6th - Literacy Block
    • Today we finished reading our book The Year of Miss Agnes.  The students got to see a surprise ending so hopefully when they write their narratives at the end of the unit, they too can incorporate a surprise ending.  After finishing the book, we took the AR test for the book so we could get even closer to our goal.  The students were not so happy to see they also had a take home test for the book as well.
  • 7th - Social Studies / Arts and Crafts
    • We finished the next phase of our  "special arts and crafts" project.  Only one more step to go after this.  Then we returned to our Social Studies book and started reading Chapter 2, lesson 4.  Nigeria, though all the way on the other side of the world, has many things in common with the United States.   It is nice for students to see that different communities have things in common, no matter where they are located.   This theme is also present in our literature book The Year of Miss Agnes.
Homework:

  1. Math - GoMath Lesson 6.6 Practice/Homework pp. 335-338
  2. Reading - The Year of Miss Agnes Take Home Test
  3. Reading - IR for 30-45 minutes
  4. Vacation Packets went home today - START!
