Way Too Talkative Tuesday!

The title says it all.  The kids were just way too talkative today, and so they lost recess AGAIN!  That is two days in a row.  I know they are getting excited about the upcoming holiday, but we have to stay focused and work hard until break!

  • 1st/2nd - Literacy Block
    • We started the day with 20 minutes of quiet independent reading time.  Some students read while others took their AR book quizzes, and others checked out new independent reading books.  Our warm up activity today was doing a Mad Lib to practice our parts of speech.
    • We went over our new vocabulary words for today's lesson and reviewed our essential questions.  As we went into lesson 2A.8 in ReadyGen, we looked at how character's actions helped move the sequence of events of the story.  We really focused on how dialogue helps this process and what it looks like.  We read chapter 8 and stopped quite a bit to look at the dialogue, the sequence, and how there was always an action that caused a reaction (cause and effect).
    • The writing focus was to be able to retell the sequence of events using temporal (time) words.  We did a sample together to model how to use the chapter and temporal words to write a good summary.

  • 3rd/4th - Math Block
    • Today we started by going over the chapter 5 end of unit test/review.  We went over question by question, looking for key words, talking about different strategies to solve each problem.  We worked each question and then asked students if they had any misunderstandings before moving on.
    • During the next period, students worked on the Chapter 5 test.  Tomorrow is the performance task part of the assessment where they have to think about the problem, decide on a strategy, and show their understanding by doing the work.
  • 5th - Lunch
  • 6th - Science with Ms. Galan
  • 7th - Arts/Crafts and Geography
    • As half of the class works  on our special arts and crafts project, the other half is doing geography activities based on the novel The Year of Miss Agnes which takes place in Alaska!
Homework:
  1. Math Practice - Multiplication Puzzle
  2. Spelling - Word forms and correct spelling
  3. Writing - Lesson 2.7 Written Response (take home book!)
  4. Cursive Practice - Trace the word, write the word
  5. Reading - Read for 30-45 minutes (IR)
